Dear Parents/Guardians of 2019 Seniors:
The commencement for Lincoln Southeast High School is almost here. This letter is sent to alert you to our plans to make it a satisfying event for you and your senior, and to request your support. Graduation will be held at Bob Devaney Sports Center on Sunday, May 26, 2019 at 4:30 p.m.
Southeast High School has a proud tradition of a dignified and meaningful commencement ceremony for graduates and their families. For several years we have implemented changes that have resulted in a more formal ceremony. We intend to continue them this year. They consist of:
Senior Meeting -- All seniors will attend this meeting on Thursday, May 16 at 9:15 a.m. in the Prasch Gym (listen for the sound announcement dismissal during 3rd period). At the meeting, seniors will “rehearse” for graduation and learn more about our expectations to have a dignified and meaningful commencement ceremony. Seniors will receive their graduation gowns, caps and tassels at the senior meeting.
Appropriate Dress -- Participating seniors must wear the traditional graduation gowns, caps and tassels. If you have not ordered the cap and gown yet, please contact www.LincolnGraduation.com. Seniors should not bring purses or other valuable items to the Sports Center, as there is no supervised place to leave their valuable items.
Behavior -- Distracting and discourteous behavior will not be tolerated. We request that family members and students leave air horns and other noisemakers, balloons and other items which might cause a distraction at home. Seniors who do not wish to abide by these expectations should not plan to attend the ceremony, which has always been optional. If a student is under the influence of drugs or alcohol, he/she will be ticketed by the police and will not be allowed to participate in the ceremony.
No Seating Allowed on the Sports Center Floor -- Because of the seating and stage configuration at Bob Devaney Sports Center, parents or family members will not be allowed on the floor before, during or after the graduation ceremony. This includes being allowed access to the floor for photographs during the ceremony. Only graduates and faculty members are allowed on the floor during the ceremony. A representative from Lifetouch photography will be taking individual photos of graduates as they receive their diplomas. See the enclosed order form for additional information. You do not need to reserve accessible seating in advance. Please ask for directions to the accessible seating area when you arrive.
Arrival and Parking – With the graduation ceremony set to begin at 4:30 p.m., seniors are asked to arrive no later than 3:30 p.m. to Bob Devaney Sports Center. Public parking is located on the north side of the Sports Center in lot #58. Students will enter the Sports Center through the north side (follow signs) and go into the track area. Parents and guests will use the ramp on the north side and enter the main entrance. For security reasons the Sports Center has a clear bag policy. If you are planning to bring a commencement gift for your graduate, the Sports Center does not allow balloons or packages of any kind and they will be confiscated at the entrance.
Every attempt will be made to clarify expectations and assist seniors and parents in meeting them. If you have questions or suggestions, please call me. We are very proud of our Class of 2019. We want them to graduate with honor and dignity. Please help us accomplish this.
