The opportunities listed below are available to help students make decisions about college and career planning. Most workshops are held on PLC Tuesdays and run from 2:10-3:00 p.m. Students need to sign up with Barb Sullivan in the Counseling Center to attend. Locations will be available when sign up is complete.
Tuesday, September 20, 2016: Kiersey-Bates Personality Inventory
If you are a sophomore, junior or senior and unsure of what you want to do after you graduate from high school, please join the LSE Counselors on Tuesday, September 20, during PLC time (2:10-3:00 p.m.) for a workshop based upon the Kiersey-Bates Personality Inventory. We will be conducting an activity that will give students insight into who they are and what they will find rewarding as a career. Once our inventory is done in the workshop, students will continue their exploration on-line. To attend this event, please sign up in the Counseling Center as soon as possible. The workshop is limited to the first 50 students. If you have questions about this event, please contact the LSE Counseling Center at 402-436-1304, option 3.
Tuesday, October 4, 2016 & Wednesday, October 5, 2016: Apply2College Days
Does your senior need help applying to college? If so, encourage them to sign up and attend our Apply2College days! Counselors and representatives of many colleges will be available to help students complete online applications on the following days:
October 4 - 2 year schools & private, (SCC or other community colleges, BryanLGH, Concordia, Creighton, Doane, Hastings, Midland, NWU, or ANY out of state college/university)
October 5 - Nebraska System schools (UNK, UNL, UNO), NSCS schools (Chadron State, Peru State, Wayne State)
Students need to register in the LSE Counseling Center for their preferred day and class period. If you have questions, please contact the LSE counseling center at 402-436-1304, prompt #3.
Tuesday, January 24, 2017 & Thursday, January 26, 2017: Scholarship Help Sessions
Seniors and Parents of Seniors! Need help paying for college? Two events are coming up that can help your senior complete their application for the Susan Thompson Buffett Scholarship and/or Southeast Community College Scholarships!
1. Susan Thompson Buffett: Scholarships are available through the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation for students who have financial need and have at least a 2.5 GPA. The application will close February 1, 2017. Please go to http://buffettscholarships.org/application-requirements to begin the application process, which requires letters of recommendation as well as a personal statement.
In addition, the LSE Counselors will be hosting a Buffett Scholarship Application Session on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 during College Club in C114. Students and parents are welcome to attend during 8th period and/or after school until 6 p.m. Dinner will be provided (Raising Canes)! Please RSVP in the counseling center. This is a great opportunity to have your questions answered and get the application completed!
2. Seniors that are planning to attend SCC! SCC’s online scholarship application is now open and closes on February 22, 2017. All SCC admitted students are invited to apply for scholarships from the SCC Foundation!
The LSE School Counselors and SCC will be hosting an SCC scholarship application workshop on Thursday, January 26, periods 3 & 4 in the GP Lab. You will need the following information to complete the application:
1. Valid and functional e-mail address (not your school email)
2. Social Security Number
3. Mailing address
4. Phone number
Please sign up in the Counseling Center to attend.
