SOS Signs of SuicideĀ® Prevention Program

SOS Signs of Suicide® Prevention Program

The adolescent years are marked by emotions that may be difficult for youth and families.   Strong emotions, such as depression, can sometimes be misunderstood as normal adolescent turmoil; therefore, many youth do not receive treatment.  However, if left untreated, depression is a leading risk factor for suicide.  Please view this link for additional information on how to recognize signs of depression and how to help students who are struggling with depression.

In an effort to educate our teens about depression and suicide, the SOS Signs of Suicide® Prevention Program will be taught soon in health classes.

The goals of this program are:

Students are taught to ACT (Acknowledge, Care, Tell) should they have concerns about themselves or others.  Please spend some time talking about the SOS program with your child, listening to their thoughts and feelings, and ensuring that they understand the steps (ACT)  they can take to help themselves or others.
